Essay

It was a dark cold Friday, when my dad came in my room turning the lights on and screaming with joy. At first I was kind of confused but as I thought about it, all the excitement in his voice had a reason. That morning my mom going to give birth to a special angel.
My dad and I woke up my brothers, we both were eager to get going. We all got ready, jumped in the car and started off towards the hospital. We pulled up at an ugly brick building with some green letters reading “Twelve Oaks.” I had a bad feeling about this place, but it whipped off as soon as I saw my mom nervous. We hurried her in and from there a lady took her in a wheel chair. I was uninformed about what was going on for hours.
I got up to get a snack from the vending machine and to my surprise I saw my dad walk towards us. He had her in his arms. She was so little, literally fitted in one hand. After 9 months I had finally met her. Unfortunately, she was nothing I imagines her like, she was a miniature, small head, and could see her veins. Right there I knew something was wrong with her.  My mom was put in her room already; the thing was that she hadn’t seen Julia. After hours of waiting they finally brought her in.
A doctor came in the room and told us he had to transfer my baby sister over to Texas Children’s Hospital. All he said was that something was wrong with her and they needed to run some test on her. They diagnosed her with Trisomy 18 after a whole month of her staying there. The doctor pretty much told us she was going to die. I could now say she is a miracle, doctors only gave her up to a year and now she is about to turn 4. She is what keeps me strong and for what I look forward in life.

Student Aid

In my opinion I think this student aid help is really useful, for those who want to achieve in life. Many students always put excuses not to go to college for. Their main one is MONEY! Plenty of these students don’t have enough money to pay for all the expenses a college life requires. There’s books, courses, dorms, food, etc. I would say it’s expensive, depending where you plan on attending. Good thing is that they are some scholarships out there. Students may apply to as many as they want. It helps out economically and the dream of every teenage to go to college and become someone important starts becoming true.
I plan on applying to every scholarship there is out there. The more you get is better. I’ve researched on many of these, and I could share some links with you all.

Essay

The President of the United States, Barak Obama, in his speech, "The Audacity of Hope", emphasizes the importance of unity. Obama's purpose is to unify the U.S. He adapts a motivating tone in order to persuade Americans to see past partisan differences.
Obama begins his speech by addressing the greatness of our nation. He uses Anaphora to emphasize that in the U.S., "we can" still do anything we want because we are free.
He then elaborates by using pathos. He mentions a "senior citizen who has to choose between medicine and the rent". The image of having to choose between heath and shelter produces strong emotion.
Barak also indicates that we are all one by using ethos. He states that "we are one people", who pledge the same flag and defend the United States of America. And that the politics shouldn't matter much if all we want is the good for our country. In conclusion, Obama used several rhetorical strategies during his speech. He used pathos, logos and anaphora to persuade people to unify despite their political differences.

Reflection - How did I improve my writing?

Writing has always come natural to me. I enjoy coming up with ideas and have fun with them. My only problem is vocabulary. Before I started this year I used multiple short words, the ones we applied to our writting skills in middle school. Now, when im sitting in class working on an essay I get my dictionary out and start looking up words. To make me and my paper look smart. I also have problems with citing text evidence. When it comes down to this, in my opinion I think every little quote is good. I have to admit im still not very good at it yet. However, I think i've gotten better at it throughtout the year.
